Tech Raid Guide

By Sunny Side King

Raiding? What is raiding? Raiding in Cyber Nations means a nation declaring war on another nation and splurging (using ground attacks) to attain their technology, land and attacking casualties. Tech simply helps will EVERYTHING to put it mildly. Land is very very valuable. And attacking casualties is well, just plain sexy.

Finding Targets

Before I tell you the dos and don’ts about raiding, we need to learn on how we can find targets. The easiest way of finding a target is going to the “Wars Across the Globe” link and here you will find all the active wars in Cyber Nations. And all you do from here is look for some kind of title indicating that the attacker is raiding and/or look to see whether or not the defending nation has an alliance.

The second way is to go to the Nation Rankings page, and here you will find a list of all the nations in your Strength Range in order of largest to smallest. The current formula for nations in your strength range is 75-133%. That means that you may declare war on nations 3/4s of your strength but that also means that bigger nations can declare war on you too. Go to the smallest one, on the last page and just start clicking names of nations and look to see whether or not they have an alliance. This can be a long process.

Remember you can only raid non black, non aligned nations!

First and foremost, selecting your target nation to raid is without a doubt the most important step in having a successful tech raid. Before you do any actual raiding yourself on Cyber Nations I would HIGHLY and I say HIGHLY because I truly mean it, recommend that you practice raiding/warring on Cyber Nations TE (Tournament Edition). This version of Cyber Nations is much more aggressive, will help you develop your skills as a raider and I gotta say, is very entertaining (assuming your active enough to play efficiently as possible).

When selecting your target:

1. Raid ONLY non-aligned, non black team nations.

2. Preferably raid nations with a lower nation strength because this will give you a distinct advantage when it comes to ground attacks, in time feel free to raid larger nations once you get the hang of it.

3. Obviously check to see what their military strength is to see if they do fight back and it turns into an all-out war, so you can still take them taking minimum damage. And most importantly, check to see how many casualties, especially attacking casualties. This will not only give you a general idea of how much war experience they have, but how willing they are to fight back. A nation with defending casualties but none for attacking is a nation willing to offer peace during a tech raid.

4. Remember that "inactive" nations aren't necessarily inactive, but may be backcollecting or even swapping resources! They are not sitting ducks. Casualties are a much better measure of a nation's willingness to fight than activity levels. Keep in mind, from Cybernations Politics forums, that even non-aligned nations may be prolific players, ready and willing to stir up trouble. I recommend you avoid these individuals who may just be biding time before selecting their next alliance. And there's always Opethian, always in a one man alliance, and always ready to wreck havoc.

How do I raid?

You may ask, how do you raid? Here’s a quick rundown:

Declare War preferably right before update and from here you may use one of three tactics:

1. “The Hit and Run” - The hit and run is exactly like it sounds, you declare, make sure you declare under the title “Raid - PM for Peace” or something like that, hit with two ground attacks before update and two more after update. Then immediately send a Peace Offer. If you're lucky and polite about it, they may accept it. If you get one of these, you’ve made some really easy land and technology. Remember, this is your IDEAL raid. If the person you're raiding has more attacking casualties then defending or just has a lot of casualties don’t even bother using “The Hit and Run” because I can assure you they will strike back with a military response.

2. "Gotta Catch 'Em All" - This raid strategy does not depend on update. If you are in a range where you have an abundance of targets, you will hope to hit more than three nations each day. This is especially useful in tournament edition. You select targets according the the specifications listed above, hoping to attack very passive opponents, those with zero attacking casualties, and perhaps those who have already accepted peace from other raiders! You send two ground attacks, deploying low troops numbers and even attacking on Cautious. You DO NOT employ the use of CMs or bombers. You are polite, send a peace offer immediately, and perhaps you even title your attack "Soldier Dump." As long as you reduce the number of attacks per opponent and the losses per opponent, you are likely to receive a peace offer and thus the ability to declare war on a SECOND opponent. You could be raiding up to ten times each day!

3. “The Ground and Pound” - Use this tactic when you KNOW that your raiding nation will strike back with a military response. This tactic is used on an opposing nation to try and literally beat them down to nothing while trying to take minimum damage at the same time. The most basic of military arsenal (assuming that you have at least 30 technology) will consist of Aircraft, Soldiers/Tanks and Cruise Missiles. If you're trying to get your targets into Anarchy, it would be wise to use the ground attacks only. And again, if you KNOW the target will respond militarily (perhaps you notice after raiding that the target has not declared peace with another raider, or has built up military, etc.), then it could be wise to employ the use of cruise missiles and bombers.

-Remember, the whole purpose of “The Ground and Pound” is to completely demoralize your enemy because the next time they sign on, we want them to have as MANY messages as possible, thus they will be very overwhelmed so send a peace offer anyway, heck I‘ve had a few times myself where I‘ve used the “Ground and Pound“ and sent a Peace Offer and I got one back. Also remember, that you may declare war on nations 75% of your strength. So lets say I’m a 10k nation declaring war on a 7.5k nation, after all my attacks (assuming I’m attacking right before and after update) I should easily be able to knock them down to 6.5k strength and with all the tech and land I’ve probably pushed my nation strength up to 10.5k. So what was originally a 2.5k difference, is now a 4k difference! My point is, even if they have to courage to stand up and fight you, it shouldn’t matter.

VERY IMPORTANT NOTES:

-You may only raid non-black, non-aligned nations!

-If your raid goes sour, and you're taking a lot of damage, don’t expect any help from us.

-If you're not sure for whatever reason whether or not you can raid somebody, please ask JoshuaR.

-Raiding can be fun and very worthwhile, but I would not recommend it to anyone to do it on a regular basis, because it’s like gambling, no matter how good you may get there are just some days where nothing seems to go right.

I hope this Raid Guide helps everyone out, whether it’s trying to get an easy 50k casualties for your National War Memorial or just feel you don’t have enough land or tech.

Tech Raid Tips from 2008

HOW TO FIND A TARGET:

For the purposes of this policy, an alliance will consist of 2 or more nations under the same AA. Targets should not be in an alliance.  Targets should not be on the black team per the Dark Vows.  Targets should not be on the red team, unless you want the largest alliance in the game to pound you to dust while we watch and do nothing.

Always read the nation bio of your target before you declare.  It may say 'never inactive' or have a list of people that the target nation is in the middle of a deal with.  You do not want to mess with people's tech deals.  Also check the Aid Screen before you declare, and make sure your target isn't in the middle of a deal or appear to have a lot of friends.  Generally, lots of aid means not a good target.

ATTACKING:

It's been said that you want your attacking odds to be 10-20%.  I prefer at least 50%.  The main point you want to remember is that you don't want to kill all of your target's soldiers.  If he happens to be inactive, you can pick his bones for days as long as he has soldiers.  So if you begin with an overwhelming force, it should be scaled back as you go so as to prolong the theft.

ETTIQUETTE:

Cruise Missiles and Air Force are largely considered bad form in a raid.  Since you don't gain anything from them, there's no point in using them unless you are seeking to destroy your target.  The use of these weapons will likely instigate a negative response from your target.  Remember, you raid to profit, pissing off your target and getting into an actual war is not profitable.  Most people attack twice and offer peace (I think).  Best not to be rude to someone you're already stealing from.

Raid solo, we do not want to be seen as thugs roaming the cyberverse in gangs mugging people smaller than us.

THE RISK:

You will recieve no support from MFO if your raid goes wrong.  If you get yourself in trouble, you should probably cease all attacks and begin talking to your opponents.  Offer reparations, etc. Being on your own does not mean you cannot come here and ask for advice; it means you will recieve no financial or military support until your situation is resolved.

Just be polite and use good judgement in choosing targets, and everything will end up alright in the end.
