We are currently working on our new ladder code.  We have all our old times, so don't worry.  Just keep track of your new times for now!

When our ladder returns, expect to see the thousands of entires we had before... !! Click here to see the old ladder's top 200 players.

Here's a link to new championship ladder. It is not live yet, it is unconnected to other ladders and contain old results only.

F-Zero Championships FAQ

Please note that this FAQ and the champ ladder itself are still in development.  But, rather than waiting for it to be finished, I thought it would be more fun to have it active.  As of right now, it measures the best total course time players on all games - so have at it!

What is the F-Zero Champs ladder?

The F-Zero Championships ladder is a competition system that ranks players in all F-Zero games - from SNES to F-Zero Climax.  Each game is counted equally in the total score.  NOTE: F-Zero GX has two ladders - but only one of them is used for each player - the system picks the better score for the player in the case they are in both the Open and Max Speed ladders.

How is the score calculated?

For each ladder the following process is followed for each player.  Each ladder is worth 10,000 points and lower points are better.

  • Total the ranks (not times, but their rank) for each of the player's course times
  • Total the ranks for absentees (imagine if they were all one rank below the last player on each course)*
  • Multiple the player's score by a weight (see below) and divide by the absentee rank
  • Do the same for lap times and scores and add them to the total (NOTE: not implemented yet - only course times are used)

* To track absentee scores, a system user called "Ferris Beuller" is in each ladder.  Ferris, as you know, always skips school .

What are the weights?

These weights are used to provide the proper focus on course times vs lap times vs speeds.  For example, the GX formula sets the course times at 60% and the lap times at 40% of the total points possible.

  • GX Open / GX Max Speed / SNES / MV / GPL / Climax:  course time = 6000, lap time = 4000
  • X: course time = 5000, lap time = 3000, speed = 2000

Why does 1st place in one ladder score differently than 1st place in another?

Each ladder is weighted by the number of players in that ladder.  So, being first in a ladder with 100 players is much more valuable than being first in a ladder with 10 players.

I updated my times, but my champ points did not change!!

The process to update the champ points is run twice a day - so your new points will be updated within 12 hours of when you are reading this.  We do this because the process is rather server intensive.
