World of Warcraft Essential Addons and Resources There are literally thousands of Addons and resources for World of Warcraft. Here are the best of the best, brought to you by MFO. This screenshot shows a few of the recommend ones (click it for a larger view): Last Updated: Sep 25, 2007, Mr.Fixit (BTW done with maintaining this - if someone want's to send me a PM) Online Resources Addons Addons are user created modifications to World of Warcraft that add new features, and sometimes incredibly useful new features. Here are MFO's picks for addons you can't live without! ACE2 ADDONS (all on http://files.wowace.com) Wow Ace Updater (WAU) http://www.wowace.com/wiki/WowAceUpdater This updater helps keep all your Ace2 addons up to date. It's pretty handy and also one of the reasons I look for Ace addons first. NOTE: this is not a traditional addon, this is a program you run outside of WOW (which, in theory, could be a key logger stealing your password). This means it is also a LOT riskier to run than any addon - if you are a little nervious, then just don't use the updater and do it manually.... Ace2 Library The Ace2 library is used by a ton of addons we recommend below. Ace Control Panel (ACP) ACP allows you to tinker with your addons in the game and reload your UI. It integrates right into the normal game menu. Omen (and Threat-1.0) Omen provides a visual threat meter that shows you who has the highest threat in your party or raid (assuming they have either Omen or KLHThreatMeter). Omen is much friendlier on CPU than KLH). This tool is essential for any dps class to manage their damage and still not pull aggro. BattleChat A replacement for your combat log that clearly shows damage you take or do - and you can hover over each item to get the details. Note: I hacked this a little to not show "+1 Rage" poopie for warriors, details here: http://www.mrfixitonline.com/viewtopic.php?t=4420 oRA2 Raid utilities - oRA2 basically replaces CT_Mod at much lower resource consumption. Check raid player's durability, items, set the main tank windows, auto-invite keyword, etc. It does not include raidframes - see other addons for that below (X-Perl). BigWigs Raid warnings for boss fights - BigWigs basically replaces Deadly Boss Mods - at much lower resource consumption. LittleWigs Party warnings for 5 mans (including heroics). CastYeller When you cast important spells (such as sheep, sap, sleep, innervate) this addon will automatically tell your part/raid. FuBar FuBar is a nifty top bar (and bottom or even more frames if you want) which can host other small programs. This is useful for displaying how much gold you have, what your progression on a faction grind is, who the last several people to whisper you are, and provide links to other addons such as AtlasLoot, etc. AutoBar Hany extra icon bar that automatically adds icons for whatever food/drink/buff food/bandage/potion/consumable/weapon oil you happen to have picked up (including usable quest items). You can hover a selection to see alternatives of that type as well. AtlasLoot In game ability to review drops in instances, pvp gear, etc. If the item has not been "seen" in the game world, it shows as broken in AtlasLoot, limiting some of the fun. BulkMailI2 and BulkMail2Inbox Handy mail interface to open all your mail or easily send multiple items to another toon. TinyTip Makes the pop up tooltips smaller and at your mouse - far easier to deal with than the default behavior. SpamMeNot Get rid of "zomg buy gold" spam whispers. ClosetGnome (newly added) Very good wardrobe manager - a step above ItemRack and an Ace2 module no less. Make a profile for "Mount" with your riding trinket and closetgnome will auto-equip it when you mount - and re-equip the prior one you had (unlike other addons which don't put the right one back). Quartz (newly added) Awesome casting bar that is totally customizable. I made my target one pretty large in in my face, so I know when to interrupt them. CURSE GAMING ADDONS: X-Perl UnitFrames http://www.curse.com/downloads/details/3416/ Although a resource hog, XPerl is amazingly useful. Show target of target of target, customize nearly everything about your party/raid interface. Very attractive and easy to configure via a GUI. Advanced features such as highlighting people with a disease you can cure, who has aggro, etc. SW Stats http://www.curse.com/downloads/details/2091/ Monitor damage and heals in a party or raid. A very useful tool to help you adjust your playstyle to get more out of your toon. You can also report the results to the party to brag or let someone know they stink... FastQuest http://www.curse.com/downloads/details/581/ Makes quest management a little easier. Can announce to the party your progress, auto adds/removes quest tracking items. Atlas http://www.curse.com/downloads/details/354/ In game instance maps - really well done. DruidBar http://www.curse.com/downloads/details/129/ Handy mana bar displays under your profile when you are in feral form. TotemManager (Chaman2) http://www.curse.com/downloads/details/5809/ Exceptionally well done Shaman totem, weapon buff, and aura management. Select which are your "hot" picks for each type of totem and it shows those icons (you can hover to pick more rarely used ones). It also puts up timers after you cast them to help you manage. For me, this freed up what used to take 20 actionbar icons and added value to boot! hawt. OTHER ADDONS (have to be great to make me go anywhere but wowace or curse!): Clique http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info5108-Clique.html A nice GUI lets you pick any spell to cast via a mouse click (or right click, or alt-click, or ctrl-right click, etc). Then you can cast those spells directly on any raid profile (or party member, target, target of target, target of target of target, etc). And you do not lose your focus / selected target! This means you can cover healing (and decursing, etc) for an entire raid of people, and still manage to stay focused on the boss and react when he gets some crazy castbar that you need to haul ass to get away from. Finally, it is useful even for warriros who can click and intercept anyone in the party/raid instantly. MarsProfessionOrganizer http://groups.google.com/group/marsmod/files A simple tool, MarsProfessionOrganizer lets you re-catagorize your craftables. So, when I open up my blacksmithing interface, I see only the items I make often at the top and I put the junk in a "zzz" folder so I don't have to mess with it. Downside: you can't shift-click recipes and it doesn't work with Enchanting... WTB new mod that does this! |
